DuPont™ CocoMat™ Pro projects

Early in May 2005 a project was completed involving our DuPont™ CocoMat™Pro.

The Problem

At a garage drive below the house, with a garden going down steeply at its sides, erosion had until recently been an enormous problem. At the slightest hint of rain the surface was washed away and the mud found its way down the drive to the garage. The use of e.g. grass was not an option, as the gradient on both sides is at least 7 in 10, making it impossible to prevent the downwash in this way. Similarly, groundcovers alone can not at first guarantee surface integrity.

The Solution

The decision was made to apply a first protective layer of CocoMat™ Pro to the ground of the side inclines. CocoMat™ Pro consists of an underlayer of Plantex® 68 gr anti-weed fabric, 70% permeable to water, and a toplayer of coconut fibre.
The total weight of this ‘mat’ is c. 880 gr per m2. To finish it off, the client opted for green groundcovers. These were simply planted into the ‘mat’ by a registered gardener. Now the ground was fully protected from erosion, because CocoMat™ Pro ensures gradual water transport and drainage during rain or thunderstorm.

From an aesthetic viewpoint as well, CocoMat Pro makes for a pleasing result.
