Project Bodensee
The problem!
At a cycle track on the Bodensee (Lake Constance) in Germany there was a major problem with roots, until 1999. The roots of trees bordering the track grew under and up through the pavement with the greatest of ease, causing tears, bumps and holes in the asphalt. The situation had become critical.

Cyclist could no longer use the track safely and enjoy nature without distraction. The municipality responsible for the area wanted to avoid damage claims and looked for effective measures. Uprooting the trees was not an option, because it would also remove all protection from the weather, defeating the purpose of this nature and recreation area.
The solution!
The problem was presented to various architects and in joint consultation with the sworn independent expert Dr. Hermann Schall C.E., it was decided to install our product RootBarrier®. Along the line of trees a ditch was dug. Next, RootBarrier® was vertically inserted to a depth of 100 cms. Protection from roots was now guaranteed, the pavement could no longer be damaged by the roots.

The evidence: April 2005!
RootBarrier® proves to be effective! After more than 5 years everybody involved is still quite happy with the result.
The pavement has not been affected by unwanted root growth. The replacement of the asphalt layer can be postponed, which saves the municipality a lot of money. Cyclist may now use the tracks safely and enjoy the fabulous surroundings!
